Butterfly Garden : segundo bloque

Lo acabé, aunque 5 días más tarde de lo marcado. Y es que este bloque se nos hizo muy cuesta arriba a todas, por la cantidad de bordados que lleva, ¡uf! La buena noticia es que el siguiente se parece más al primero, la mala... un bloque sí y otro no tienen esta ingente cantidad de bordado, jajaja, pero... ¿a que es precioso una vez acabado?

Este es uno de los bloques que más trabajo dan. 

Simula un bloque de patchwork pero todo bordadito.

Este es uno de mis preferidos, con la frase en inglés y la mariposa, ¡me encanta!

Y este... es una delicia... me costó, pero puedo decir que me encanta hacer nudos franceses. ¡Y quedan taaaan lindos!

Y este es el otro minibloque "quiero-ser-patchwork-pero-soy-bordado-pesadilla", uf, el que más me costó de todos la verdad, creo que también porque el color no ayudaba mucho (me gustaba más el rosa fucsia de arriba).

Bueno, ¿y qué os parece? 

Tengo que ponerme ya con el tercero si quiero acabarlo en este mes de agosto.

Civil War: North Star

Recuperando el tiempo perdido... aquí tenéis el segundo bloque del Civil War. Este se llama "North Star", "Estrella del Norte". Los colores de la foto no están muy logrados, es lo que pasa cuando no se hacen las fotos a la luz del día... :)

Recovering lost time, here it is the second block of the Civil War. This one's name is "North Star". The colours in the picture are not very real, that's what happens when you do not take your photos with daylight.

También he estado trabajando un montón en el segundo bloque de mi Butterfly Garden, esta vez tiene muchísimo bordado y me está llevando mucho tiempo terminarlo, pero espero poder mostrároslo a finales de semana.

I hace also been working a lot in the second block of my Butterfly Garden quilt, this time it has a lot of embroidery and it is taking really long to finish, but hope I can show it to you at the end of the week.

Civil War: Catch Me If You Can

Como tenía pocas cosas que hacer, unas locas me han liado para que me una a ellas en el Civil War quilt que organiza Barbara Brackman. Ella ya lleva 31 bloques, a razón de 1 por semana, nosotros vamos a nuestro ritmo, poco a poco...

Since I had just a few things to do, some crazy friends have made me join them in the Civil War quilt organized by Barbara Brackman. She already has 31 blocks, one per week, but we go with our own rhythm, little by little...

Este es el primer bloque: "Catch Me If You Can" o "Atrápame si puedes". ¡Qué apropiado, jajaja!

No miréis con demasiada atención las uniones. ¡Odio coser triánguloooooos! Siempre hay un par de ellos que me quedan mal. ¡¡¡Grrrrrr!

Do not pay much attention to where the triangles meet. I hate sewing triangles! There are always a few of them that end up horrible. Grrrrrrr!!!!

Cactus Pot

La semana que viene no podré coser a máquina y me dedicaré a bordar y tejer. Por eso, antes de decirle adiós a mi Berni por una temporada he hecho tres bloques más del Simply Sophisticated Mistery BOM...

El bloque de hoy se llama Cactus Pot y me ha resultado mucho más fácil y ameno que el de ayer con tanta unión de triángulos. En este apenas había puntas que casar y es de agradecer.

Además, he hecho otro de los bloques de nine-patch que lleva el quilt. De estos en azules aún tengo que hacer otros 4 y estoy teniendo problemas con las medidas finales del bloque, ya lo arreglaré de alguna forma. Luego hay otros 6 nine-patch en tonos marrones, pero primero quiero acabar estos.

Me faltan 6 tipos de bloques por hacer, al final en total son 21 (uno solo se hace una vez) y junto con los 12 nine-patch dará lugar a un quilt que mide 76 x 89 pulgadas (1,93 x 2,26 metros). ¡Madre mía! Será enorme... buf buf... ya me voy a estresar... y sobre todo porque viendo el diseño final, ¡son todo uniones de triángulos! aaaaaaarrrrrrggggggg.... ¿Quién me mandaría a mi meterme en semejante lío?

Creo que me vuelvo con mi Citron, a ver si lo acabo de una vez.

Card Trick

En mi afán por acabar mis UFOs pendientes he decidido ir retomándolos todos... hoy me apetecía un poco de costura a máquina, así que después de montar los minibloques del segundo bloque del Butterfly Garden (ya os lo enseñaré cuando estén los bordados y las aplicaciones hechas), me puse a rebuscar entre mis UFOs y rescaté este BOM que tiene unas telas de Blackbird Designs que son una delicia.

Este bloque se llama Card Trick y es un patrón tradicional muy conocido, que aparece en muchos quilts.

Os puedo decir que he acabado hasta el gorro de tanto triángulo, una porque me confundí y tuve que descoser 14 triángulos después de haberlos unido porque había unido el lado que no era, y otra porque aún no domino la técnica para que me queden bien las costuras así que tiene algún fallito... Al menos el tamaño final del bloque es el que tiene que ser, 9 pulgadas y media... cosa que no ocurre con los bloques previos del mismo BOM (no tenía la maravillosa pata 57 de la Berni entonces), pero ya veré como resuelvo esa eventualidad una vez termine de coserlos todos... supongo que tendré que repetir los primeros... snif :(

Bueno, ¿y qué os parece?

Ahora creo que me merezco algo de descanso y sofá... y un poquito de calceta. :))

Retomando el Butterfly Garden

Estoy en modo acabar UFOs...

Y tenía este empezado desde hace muchíiiiisimo tiempo, así que cuando Trelly, Silvia, Eva, Belén, Anahí y Marta me revolucionaron el facebook diciendo que iban a hacerlo todas ellas a la vez, a razón de un bloque por mes, acabé animándome y lo bueno es que lo terminé... justo a tiempo antes de que se acabase el mes.

Ahora a ver si no tardo tanto en hacer el segundo, porque si no.... jajaja. Pero seguro que Trelly no deja que me despiste ni un minuto. :))))

Rollin' Spools

Otro bloquecito más del Patchwork Party 2008... Este está enteramente hecho con la ayuda de la Berni... aun me cuesta que me cuadren bien las costuras y los márgenes de costura no son del todo exactos pero va quedando más o menos bien (ay, ¿cuando tendré la superpata 57 de la Bernina?, a ver si se la regalo para Navidad jeje....)

Another little block more from the Parchwork Party 2008. This one is all done with Berni's help... I still have difficulties making the seams fit and the seam allowances are not completely accurate but it is turning out quite goo (ay, when will I have the wonderful 57 feet of Bernina?, let's see if I can buy it for X-mas hehe...)

Cottage Mosaic

¡He vuelto!... Bueno, en realidad no me había ido pero no tenía tiempo de coser... Os cuento, he cambiado de trabajo y ahora creo que tendré algo más de tiempo libre, aunque siempre acaba uno llevándose trabajo a casa, pero espero que me permita hacer alguna que otra cosilla.

I am back!... Well, actually I had never left but I had no time to sew... Let me tell you, I have changed my job and now I think I will have some more free time, although one always ends up bringing work home, but I hope I can manage to finish up some things.

Esta tarde le he dado trabajo a mi Berni, y he acabado un bloque del Patchwork Party que había empezado a mano hace muchos meses. Ahora que tengo a mi compañera de costura creo que lo de coser a mano va a a quedar algo aparcado, y aunque no es muy apropiado mezclar en un trabajo bloques a mano y a máquina el resto los va a hacer la Berni :)))

This afternoon I gave some work to my Berni, and I have finished a block of the Patchwork Party that I started by hand many months ago. Now that I have my sewing partner with me I think that hand-sewing will be put aside for a while, although it is not very nice to mix in the same project blocks by hand and by machine, the rest will be done by Berni :)))

También he terminado el regalo del swap Zakka organizado por Najma, y el lunes por la tarde salió para su destino, cuando le llegue a mi amiga invisible lo publicaré, pero por ahora tengo que esperar... Muchos besos y hasta pronto.

Sawtooth Stars

Me he puesto las pilas con un BOM que estoy haciendo que tenía medio abandonado (no voy a hacer solo punto de cruz, que este blog lo creé por el patchwork y parece que no haga nada). Y con la inestimable ayuda de mi nueva compañera de fatigas (la Berni para los amigos) he terminado dos bloques más.

I have put myself to work and worked in a BOM I am doing that had apart (I can´t just do x-stitch, this blog was created because of patchwork and lately I am doing none). And with the invaluable help of my new working mate (Berni for friends) I have finished two more blocks.


Este se llama Sawtooth Star y no veais la que he liado con las costuras que lleva. Para que os hagáis una idea, tal y como dicen en el patrón que hay que hacerlo las costuras de los bordes del cuadrado ¡¡llevan 6 telas!!!. Si, parece increible pero es cierto, menos mal que este ya lo he hecho a maquina porque a mano a ver quien es la guapa que cose a través de 6 telas. Otra dificultad fue que me casasen bien las costuras en punta y en ángulo recto, como nunca lo he hecho a máquina aún estoy explorando diferentes métodos con más o menos suerte. Lo último que hice fue colocar alfileres en los puntos de union y pasar unas puntadas a máquina en esos puntos (como si hilvanara), y luego quité los alfileres y cosi toda la costura... Bueno, para ser la primera vez no me ha quedado del todo mal. Seguro que el segundo (hay que hacer 2) me saldrá mejor. ¿Qué os parece?

This one is called Sawtooth Star and you do not want to know the mess I made with the seams. To give you a picture, as it states in the pattern the seams around the central square are made with 6 fabric layers!!! Yes, I know it looks impossible but it true, thank God I made this one with the machine, because I want to see who is the brave one to sew this by hand going through 6 layers of fabric. Another difficulty was to make the seams in angle fit, since I never did this by machine, I am still exploring different methods with more or less luck. Last I tried was to put pins in the meeting points and do sew a little bit there, and then removed the pins and sewed the whole seam... well to be the first one I think it is not too bad. I am sure that the second one (I must do 2) will be better. What do you think?

También he hecho uno de los 6 bloques de Nine Patch que hay que hacer con estas telas... con este tuve otro problemilla, aparte del de las uniones de las costuras y es que no se por qué pero las tiras me quedaron algo escasas de margen de costura (algo menos de 1/4 de pulgada) y como los cuadros grandes sí estaban bien de tamaño, no veais la que lié para unirlos... pero improvisando tampoco quedó tan mal. Todo es mejorable...

I also made one of the 6 Nine Patch blocks that we are supposed to do in these fabrics... with this one I had another problem, besides the seams in the unions, and it was that I do not know why, the strips seam allowances were a bit too short (a bit less than 1/4 inch) and since the big squares were right in size, you do not want to see what a mess I made to put them together... but improvising turned out quite ok. All can be improved...


Y por último os enseño los bloques que llevo hasta ahora... va creciendo la colección. Por cierto, del bloque más marroncito... ¿sabríais decirme cuál de los dos está a cosido a mano y cuál a máquina?

And last I show you the blocks I have made so far... the collection is growing. By the way, of the chocolate coloured blocks... could you tell which one is hand-sewn and which machine-sew?

Pinwheels on Parade

Otro bloque más del Patchwork Party Winter 2008. Se llama "Pinwheels on Parade". No sé cómo pero después de hacer el primero y más sencillo, cogí otro y resultó ser el más laborioso... ¿en qué estaría pensando? Luego vi que en la web de Patchwork Party te dan unas pistas para ir haciendo los bloques en el orden del más fácil al más difícil... ¡pero yo me lancé del primero al último sin paracaídas! :)
Bueno, al final no fué tan duro... sólo tenía mil piezas chiquititas...


Another more block of the Patchwork Party Winter 2008. Its name, "Pinwheels on Parade". I do not know how but after doing the first and easiest one, I took another one and it turned out to be the more complex one... what was I thinking? After that I saw in the Patchwork Party website that there are some tips to do the blocks following a sequence, from the easiest to the most difficult one... but I went straight from the first to last with no parachute! :)
Well, at the end it was not so hard... it just had a thousand small pieces...

Mixed Quartet

Antes de irme a pasar la nochebuena con mi familia os enseño el primer bloque terminado del Patchwork Party Winter 2008, su nombre, "Mixed Quartet". No tenía muy claro como quedaría la combinación de colores, pues eran unas telas muy diferentes y la verdad, el azul no es mi color favorito, pero creo que ha quedado precioso, y ya estoy deseando hacer los otros bloques. A máquina va rapidísimo pero a mano como yo los hago, cada bloque me lleva un rato durante una o dos tardes. A ver si estos días de Navidad le doy un buen empujoncito a la espera de que me llegue el kit de finalización. ¿Os gusta como ha quedado?

Before going to spend X-mas eve with my family I show you the first finished block of the Patchwork Party Winter 2008, its name, "Mixed Quartet". I was not very sure of how this combination of colours would turn out, because they are so very different fabrics and to tell the truth, blue is not my favourite colour, but I think it looks beautiful and I am looking forward to do the other blocks. By machine goes really fast but sewing by hand as I do, each block needs a while during one or two afternoons. I hope these holiday days I can give it a push while I wait for the finishing kit. How do you like it?

Simply Sophisticated Star

Por fin, el segundo bloque del Simply Sophisticated Mistery BOM. Se llama Simply Sophisticated Star y aqui está al lado del primero (acabo de darme cuenta de que no os puse como se llamaba en el anterior post, el primero es el The Brownie Nine Patch). De este tambien tengo que hacer dos pero tenia ganas de subirlo al blog, asi que luego me pondré con el segundo. Parece en tonos violetas en la foto pero en realidad es un marron chocolate y lo que mas me gusta de él es que parece tener volumen. ¿Os gusta?


Finally, here you have the second block of the Simply Sophisticated Mistery BOM. It is called Simply Sophisticated Star and here you can see it together with the first one (I just realised that I did not tell you its the name in the previous post, the first one is The Brownie Nine Patch). I also must do two of each but I wanted to upload it to the blog, later on I will start the second one. I looks like done in violets in the photo, but in real is a chocolate brown, and what I like the most of it is that it seems to have a volumen. Do you like it?

Aqui esta por fin, el primer bloque del Simply Sophisticated Mystery BOM al que me apunté en la web de Fat Quarter Shop. En realidad tuve que hacer dos iguales, y ya los tengo listos, este es el primero que terminé hace unos días y al que le saqué la foto. Las telas son tan bonitas... todas de la coleccion Harvest Home de Blackbird Designs. Las vi en el blog de Mercedes y aunque ella consiguió resistirse yo no fui capaz... :) Y ahora tengo una amiga que vio el bloque terminado y decidio apuntarse tambien... y va a ser lo primero que haga en patchwork! ¿Os gusta?

Finally here it is, the first block of the Simply Sophisticated Mystery BOM I enlisted at the Fat Quarter Shop web. Actually it is two of those that I must make, and I have them ready, I just took a picture of the first one I finished some days ago. The fabrics are so beautiful... all from the Harvest Home Collection by Blackbird Designs. I saw it in the blog of Mercedes and though she could resist it I could not... :) And now I have also a friend that saw my first block and she decided to enlist as well... it will be the first thing she does in patchwork! How do you like it?
